Save Our Date - Revealed - Part 1

After searching trying to find a Save the Date that was just right for "us" and not finding something that worked really well in its entirety, we decided to piece together a bunch of Save the Dates that we liked, and make it just right for what we envisioned.

First we decided on the actual images for the Save the Dates.  I came across this while searching for inspiration for our engagement shoot (which should give you a clue what the theme to our engagement pictures will be!)
Wedding Chicks

I loved it immediately, and knew that  Mr. Ly would too.  Mad Men is OUR show.  We watch every episode together, we love the concept, the characters, and even though the show doesn't exactly portray marriage in the best light - it fits us to a T! (Our other TV inspiration was possibly going to be Game of Thrones - "Winter is Coming" for our winter wedding!) Once we decided that this was the direction we wanted to go in, I personalized it, and came up with this:

We were going to print it on a postcard and add some more elements to personalize it, but R didn't like the back being plain.  So, being tech-crafty, and added a reverse image to the back:

First I inverted the image:

Then, I did some creative editing and adding of shapes to make it look like the front of the couple instead of the back:

It's not 100% perfect, but it got across the image we were trying to capture.  We added our wedding website on the bottom (which I re-edited out for blog purposes), and sent it off to the printers. Because we got such a good deal with a coupon, we ended up with 300 postcards, even though we only needed 100 Save the Dates.  (There were no options between 100 and 300, and it was the same to just add 50 as it was to get 300. We may find a way to re-purpose the extra 200 we have lying around for the wedding - place cards maybe??)

Once we had the postcards in, there was a huge glaring mistake on our wedding website. I had added an extra .com after our names.  Eek. Not a terrible mistake, but I didn't like the idea of sending them out with errors.  We could have them reprinted, but then we'd have 500 extras! Or, I could come up with a creative solution.

We thought about putting a sticker over the .com, but I thought it would look really strange and not fit with the rest of the card.  We thought about trimming off the end, but that cut off some of the words on the front, which is obviously not good. We thought about including an insert that pointed out the mistake and directed our guests to the correct website. I even tried coloring over it with a grey sharpie (good thing we had extras!).  In the end, I came up with a different solution that neither drew attention to the mistake, nor covered up the one on the back.

What would you do if you found a typo on your Save the Date?
