Let Them Eat Cake!

Warning: Copious amounts of cake porn ahead. Dieters, cake fanatics, and sugar lovers beware.

I will not be having a cake tasting in the traditional sense. My wedding cake is being provided by my super talented MOH, who has created amazing masterpieces such as this:
Diane Michelle Cakes
and more traditional beauties, such as this:

I am so very lucky to have a best friend, who is not only incredibly talented, but extremely generous and gifting us a cake for our wedding.  So, instead of having her make us cakes to taste, (I've had several varieties of her cakes before, they are all delicious and I trust her completely!)  I invited one of my BMs to a Philadelphia charity cake event that MOH Di happened to be competing in.

It is appropriately titled, "Let Them Eat Cake" and this year's theme was "Under the Big Top"

So BM Linda and I bought our tickets and headed over to eat some cake on a Monday in April. It was part bridal show (they had a few vendors) but mostly just more cake and champagne than you could even fathom, all being consumed for a good cause.  The best part is they give you a take out container upon arrival, so you can take even more cake home with you! (wedding dieter's NIGHTMARE!)

Here is the scene when we arrived:

And a room full of people and rows and rows and rows of people anxiously waiting to eat cake!

And there was cake.cake.cake.cake.cake. So much cake.

They will be doing our groom's cake - how amazing will our cakes be??

This cake is from a local bakery near my house. They do an AMAZING blue velvet cupcake.  And I thought the cake was beautiful too.  (Photo via PhillyLovesFun)

This cake won best design - It had a light inside the tent, and was truly amazing. (photo courtesy of MOH Di's mom)

Winner of best taste and best overall - while we are biased, none of us agreed that this one should have won overall.
It's  nice enough by design, but by no means the best cake we saw there.  PhillyLovesFun

And finally MOH Di's amazing cake. The design was masterfully created and executed, and her cake, as always, tasted amazing, Almond cake, with raspberry jam and amaretto buttercream.  It was an amazing taste sensation. She was robbed.

It was a great time, even if Di didn't win, her cakes are a winner in my book.  This was the closest thing I will have to a cake tasting, and I think what matters most was of all the different cakes I tasted that day (and trust me when I tell you there was A LOT), Di's cakes were my favorite.  Our caterers cake was just way too sweet and did not rank well at all against the others, so I'm glad we're using them for just the groom's cake!

BM Linda and I had a great time, too.  We ate more cake than humanly possibly (I took a bunch home to  Mr. Ly as well), and got some free goodies from the vendors, and stopped in the photobooth while we made our rounds:

We mustache you a question! (Shutterbooth)
Anyone else have a non-traditional cake tasting?
